1st of all, it is state law that no one with any sign of lice on

their heads should be in a hair salon.

Lice is spread through sharing of combs and brushes, head to head contact, and coats hanging next to each other touching.

There are lots of treatments out there, chemicals and natural. You will also need to treat your home...washing bedding and packing up any stuffed animals and pillows that can’t be washed in a garbage bag and sealing it tight, leaving it sealed up for a week or so & vacuum everything, including car interiors.

There is also plenty of info on this subject to be found online.

Fairy Tales Rosemary Repel products seem to be very effective in preventing lice!

If your child's hair is becoming increasingly tangled, here are a few of the common culprits…

-Chlorine.

If you don’t use a chlorine removing shampoo (chelating or clarifying), the chlorine will build up more and more every time your child swims. I would highly recommend a salon product over a drug store swim shampoo, it has been my experience that these don’t really do much. Also be sure to completely soak the hair with tap water before entering the pool.

-Tear Free, 2-in-1, drug store kid’s shampoo.

A common myth is that “Baby Shampoo is the gentlest way to cleanse the hair, this is so not true! The tear free agents, especially in drug store brands is very harsh, drying and builds up in the hair almost like chlorine. Basically, the sooner you can get your child off of tear free shampoo, the better. (Try LOMA, it is nice and light and very reasonably priced!)

-It needs a good Conditioner.

All longer hair needs at least a little conditioner.

-It simply needs a trim!

Generally girls with longer hair should be trimmed every 3-4 months

to keep it in good, tangle free condition.

Tangles a problem?

Lice!

This is a very common condition in babies, but it is sometimes seen in older kids. It is my belief that in older children this is just do to a lack of washing and brushing of the hair, to be healthy, the scalp needs to be clean and stimulated.

The best way to get rid of it… apply some light baby oil on the affected areas, let sit for a half an hour or so, then scrape away (I have found that the fingernails are the best tool for this, but a comb will do).

We do “Cradle Cap Treatments” if you don’t want to do the work (or your child won’t let you… we usually get away with more than Mom and Dad do).
